FURNITURE RESTORATION & REFINISHING

Museum Quality Restoration Services restores fine antiques, ancient artifacts, antiquities, and furniture. The beauty of old world growth wood is denser, stronger and has detailed grain and patterns that are much different from today’s wood.

In terms of craftsmanship, strength, and appearance, they are much better in every aspect than new wood. Original woods like sycamore, oak, walnut, pine and fruit woods such as cherry wood, almond, palm as well as exotic woods like mahogany, rosewood, ebony are worth preserving. These woods have a richness of color as well as durability that make the craftsmanship of fine furniture and antiques distinctive and valuable.

Hiring a highly regarded and skilled professional means that you can be sure the job will be done correctly, and you won’t have to worry about any mistakes that could further damage your furniture.

We recently had the pleasure of working with Mark on a restoration of two items: a 1920s family heirloom English oak armoire, and a mid century danish teak shelving unit.

The armoire was left for some years in an unconditioned garage, and as a result had warping and shrinking of the wood, which left it close to unusable. Mark was able to make everything right with the armoire. It has been straightened, refinished, and is now in an incredible, durable state, standing in the living room of our new home.

The shelving unit was in a usable state, but had several points of damage and splitting of the veneer. He was able to repair the entire set within a matter of 1-2 weeks, ready for mounting in our den.

He was able to share incredible detail of the works in progress, as well as talk a lot about the techniques he uses.

We will definitely be using his services again in the future.

Mark did amazing work restoring my mid-century painting & original frame that had severe water damage. He meticulously removed the frame to repair & refinish before cleaning & restoring the painting.
Mark is an immensely talented man and he takes great care in his work. I brought him several pieces of chipped Italian pottery. He could fix a few but was honest about the amount of work - and the ultimate cost - to repair the others. I appreciated his taking time for a full evaluation, fixing what he could and being candid about what was or wan't possible on the other pieces. Highly recommended and worth the drive from Palm Springs!

Mark Fry of Museum Quality Restoration did a fantastic job resizing my very large ottoman from 53" x 53" to 32" x 32". The project was much more complex than I had imagined, but he handled it with real skill and care. He completely reconstructed the frame so it would be ready for the upholsterers, and he made it extremely sturdy. He also kept me informed throughout each step of the process, which I really appreciated. In addition to his craftsmanship, Mark was very kind and a pleasure throughout the entire process. I’m so grateful for the excellent job he did and would highly recommend him.

So happy I found Museum Quality Repairs. I am the owner of a few antiques. One is a tiny end table that is 12 inches square and 20 inches tall. After years of use and abuse, it had literally fallen apart. It was originally built mostly with glue and with very few nails. I searched and found Mark's website. I knew from looking at his site he was the man for the job. I drove to his facility and scoped my table out of my trunk and went in. We discussed the job. We settled on a price that was within my range. He told me he would send me some photos during the restoration process. And that he did, as you can see. When he was finished, I went to collect my table. And sure enough, he had done an excellent job. My little end table is sturdy and perfectly finished. I highly recommend Mark and will certainly use him when I next need an item refinished or repaired. Bravo Mark!!!

Mark is a true craftsman. He was able to repair the broken leg on our mid-century modern dresser. He also recommended that the bolts on the other legs be replaced to improve stability and he took the time to do that work as well. Mark takes pride in everything he does- he is thorough, skilled and a pleasure to work with. He is honest and fair with the appraisal of the cost of the work. I would highly recommend Mark. Here are the before and after pictures.

contacted Mark at Museum Quality Restoration to work on my family’s 1920’s Seth Thomas regulator wall clock. This was an old school clock my father got from Burbank High School when the school remodeled in 1950. It has been in storage for the last 15 years after hanging on the wall of the family home the past 75 years. This clock was abused by us kids throughout the years. We over wound it, decorated it for Christmas and hid our roller skate keys in the pendulum box. The brass rim was severely tarnished, the wood dry, and the cabinet was starting to pull apart. Mark did an amazing job. He pulled apart the cabinet, repairing any splits and securing the joints. He repaired the glass bezel, re-affixed welds, straightened the hinge and a myriad of other things. The brass rim now shines. The cabinet is beautifully restored, the face was cleaned and he replaced the small cotter pin Mon used to hold on the clock hands. Mark kept me aware of everything he was doing and since course we didn’t know what it needed until he opened things up, he kept me informed about the cost. The clock is just gorgeous now and I look forward to enjoying it in my home and eventually passing it on to my own family.

I can’t recommend Mark enough, I saw many beautiful examples of his work in his shop and I’ve already made arrangements for him to work on great grandmother’s platform rocker.

Mark Fry did an absolutely spectacular job of restoring three tables of mine: a parson's table, probably from the 1960s; a table brought from China in the 1930s; and a mid-century modern small round coffee table.

He is a master! The quality of his work is extraordinary and done with great care and attention to detail. I could not be happier with how he brought these tables back to life!

Excellent repair/restoration of 60+ year old Eames & Ekornes chairs & ottomans. Mark transformed the original leather, wood, and metal with painstaking hands-on work. He searched for authentic replacement parts, protecting the original value + making them more resilient to future use. He sent photos of the progress along the way, and finished in a timely way. Highly recommend Museum Quality Restoration for treasured belongings!

Once again I can not say enough about how happy I am with this business.
Another family heirs been restored to its former glory.
Thank you Mark. We will be doing business again

I can’t say enough nice things about this business. The whole process was quick and easy.
Long story short, the piano movers broke the leg on my 75 year old piano. Not only did Mark fix the broken leg but he refreshed the none broken one. They both look better than new and I couldn’t be happier. He did it quickly and at a fair price. Mark was great at keeping me updated on the progressives and I highly recommend this business if you need an item repaired.

WONDERFUL!! Absolutely top notch service. Had a 1960s chess table that needed restoration. Not valuable, but very sentimental. Mark handled it like it was the Mona Lisa and his restoration was impeccable. Sent me texts & photos every step of the way, too. Could not be happier with the result. Now shows a gorgeous wood grain I didn't even know was there. He leveled the table top, too. And the wrought iron table legs looks brand new!

The game surface was made of paper and extremely damaged. He had suggestions for replacement but I wanted to keep it for nostalgia. He cleaned it, repaired what was possible, and coated it to stop further damage. Then I got a graphics artist to make a digital copy of the pattern and had it printed on a thin plastic material that I can drop in over the original surface to play on, but remove to reminisce when I want to see the underlying original. 🙂

First 2 photos are "before," the rest are "after". Couldn't be happier!!

I brought some busted up antique piano pieces to Mark Fry for repair

One of the legs was broken at the base and the caster had snapped off

The lyre that holds the 3 pedals was badly broken

Mark did a careful job of restoring the parts. This piano was made in Philadelphia and is over 100 yrs old

He is picky about the little details, which I appreciate
